In one case, a victim lost over $5,000 after being tricked into driving to Kingston to check on their loved one, who was safe.
Residents are warned to watch for callers demanding money and pressuring them to act quickly, sometimes sending a courier to collect cash. Police emphasize they will never demand money or send someone to your home.
