The Ontario government is providing over $450,000 to four local police services to enhance their response to individuals experiencing mental health crises. This funding is part of the Mobile Crisis Response Team Enhancement Grant, which helps local police teams work with trained crisis workers to de-escalate volatile situations and provide support to those in need.
Steve Clark, MPP for Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes, announced the allocations which include: $94,007 for the Gananoque Police Service, $109,852 for the Brockville Police Service, $120,125 for Leeds OPP, and $128,818 for Grenville OPP.
Clark emphasized the importance of these specialized teams, which combine police officers and crisis workers to provide immediate care and connections to community resources.
This funding is part of a broader $4.5 million investment by the Ontario government for the 2024-25 period, aimed at strengthening Mobile Crisis Response Teams across 40 police services and OPP detachments throughout the province. The initiative aims to improve safety and support for those in mental health or addiction crises.
