Frontenac OPP are investigating a copper wire theft that occurred on January 15th, in South Frontenac Township. Thieves targeted a telecommunication line on Firehall Road, scaling a telephone pole and cutting the wire. The affected telecommunication company reported the system failure at 3:49 a.m., indicating when the theft likely took place. The stolen wire spanned from one pole to the next and is valued at approximately $5,000.
As a result, several residents experienced phone service disruptions for part of the day. Authorities are urging the public to provide any information that could assist in identifying those responsible for this crime.
Frontenac OPP are asking residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity related to thefts from rural properties. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the OPP or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
