Michael Barrett, Member of Parliament for Leeds—Grenville—Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes, had the honour of presenting King Charles III Coronation Medals at a special ceremony on Parliament Hill. The medals recognize Canadians for their outstanding contributions to their communities and the country.
A total of 30,000 medals are being awarded to members of the Canadian Armed Forces, public service, and individuals who have made a significant impact. Among the recipients honored on Saturday was Gretchen Huntley from Gananoque, recognized for her dedication to community service. Huntley has served as the Town’s Poet Laureate for several years and has made contributions to the Gananoque and District Humane Society and the Gananoque Food Bank. One of the other recipients was Captain Wayne Shields from the Leeds Thousand Islands Fire Service. A veteran of 55 years with the service, Shields also has been involved with the Lansdowne Agricultural Society and continues his contributions to this very day.
“It’s an honour to present this recognition on behalf of Canada,” said MP Barrett. “These individuals exemplify service, sacrifice, and the values of our nation through their work in various sectors, including the military, emergency services, nonprofit organizations, and the arts.”
Barrett extended his congratulations and gratitude to all medal recipients. A full list of honorees is available below.
