Brockville Police have charged a 39-year-old man following alleged incidents of intimate partner violence and impaired driving on December 17th and 18th
The initial altercation occurred on December 17 near Rivers Avenue, where a dispute between the man and his wife escalated. The woman attempted to leave the vehicle but was physically restrained by the man. After she exited, he grabbed her purse, cracked a windshield, and drove aggressively toward her, mounting a curb before chasing her on foot. Two bystanders intervened, preventing further harm.
The following day, police were called to a Beecher Street residence after the man, impaired by drugs, struck a fence with his vehicle. Officers arrested him on-site, and testing by a drug recognition expert confirmed impairment.
The man faces multiple charges, including assault, harassment, mischief under $5,000, dangerous driving, and impaired operation of a vehicle. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Police commend bystanders for their intervention and stress the importance of reporting domestic violence.
