In early January 2021 the Kingston Police Drug Enforcement Unit began an investigation into persons selling fentanyl in the City of Kingston. The investigation lead them to an address in downtown Kingston. The drug team secured a Controlled Drug and Substances Act warrant and the address was entered on January 7, 2021.
Police located two persons inside the residence at the time of the warrant being executed and they were taken into custody by the Kingston Police Emergency Response Unit. The residence was searched with the assistance of the Kingston Police Canine Unit and a quantity of a controlled substance, fentanyl and cocaine was located. Police also located a loaded sawed off shot gun inside the residence.
The two males were arrested and transported to Kingston Police headquarters and charged with trafficking in a controlled substance and numerous weapon offences and held for a bail hearing. A third person was arrested the following day by a patrol officer. Police ultimately seized a large quantity of fentanyl and cocaine along with a firearm and Canadian Currency totalling over $29,000 in street value.
Janice ASHFORD a 52-year-old local woman was charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking a schedule 1 substance, three counts of possessing a weapon dangerous to public peace, possessing a prohibited firearm without holding a licence and registration certificate, store firearm carelessly, two counts of storing ammunition carelessly, possess weapon for committing an offence, possess loaded regulated firearm and possess proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5000.
Tyrelle MEREDITH a 19-year-old male from Pickering was charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking a schedule 1 substance, three counts of possessing a weapon dangerous to public peace, possessing a prohibited firearm without holding a licence and registration certificate, store firearm carelessly, two counts of storing ammunition carelessly, possess weapon for committing an offence, possess loaded regulated firearm and possess proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5000.
A 16-year-old male youth from Pickering was charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking a schedule 1 substance, three counts of possessing a weapon dangerous to public peace, possessing a prohibited firearm without holding a licence and registration certificate, store firearm carelessly, two counts of storing ammunition carelessly, possess weapon for committing an offence, possess loaded regulated firearm and possess proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5000.
