Linklater Public School welcomed a new student to the classroom….at least for one day. Grade 4 students at Linklater Public school invited town mayor Ted Lojko to their classroom on November 21st and showed him a presentation with results from a three month research project, about the school’s green initiative. Linklater Principal Jennifer McMaster said in a statement that the students wanted to show how, we as a community, can up our game. With their recent student run recycling program LPS has reduced its waste by 93 percent. The students were invited by the Mayor to share the same presentation during Town Council Tuesday night in Gananoque before a full crowd. The end of the presentation saw a big round of applause and praise from everyone.
Their suggestions include:
• working to eliminate plastic straws in Gananoque’s restaurants;
• introducing a municipal composting program;
• encouraging stores to sell paper bags rather than plastic ;
• introducing a town clean-up day; and
• installing garbage cans in town that have slots for recyclables.
