Staff at Joyceville Institution intercepted a package containing contraband on April 24, 2025, thanks to their vigilance. The seizure at the multi-level security federal facility included tobacco, marijuana, edged weapons, cellphones, and cellphone accessories, with an estimated institutional value of $103,500.
The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) says it continues to strengthen measures to prevent the introduction of contraband to ensure the safety and security of inmates, staff, and visitors. CSC also works closely with police to investigate and act against individuals attempting to smuggle unauthorized items into institutions.
In addition, CSC operates a confidential telephone tip line for all federal institutions. The toll-free number, 1-866-780-3784, allows members of the public and inmates to anonymously report information related to drug trafficking or other activities that could impact security.
The investigation into the source of the seized package at Joyceville Institution is ongoing.
