The Leeds County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) laid close to 200 charges during their Easter long weekend initiative, which ran from April 18 to April 21, 2025. The focus of the operation was on passenger restraint systems, ensuring compliance with seatbelt and child seat regulations.
In total, the OPP laid 197 Highway Traffic Act charges, including 11 seatbelt violations and five stunt driving-related offenses. Additionally, 28 warnings were issued, and 18 R.I.D.E. checks were conducted. The force also laid 33 charges against commercial motor vehicle drivers throughout the month.
Despite responding to over 170 calls for service during this busy period, OPP members remained visible and proactive. Operations Manager J. B. (Brian) Jones reminded the public, “Buckle up, every trip, every time. Seatbelts save lives,” emphasizing the importance of safety on the road.
