An officer with the Frontenac OPP conducting speed enforcement stopped an impaired driver on Highway 7 near Zealand Road in Sharbot Lake on April 18, 2025. The vehicle was observed travelling at a high rate of speed just after 9:30 p.m.
After pulling the driver over, the officer conducted standardized field sobriety tests, which indicated impairment due to alcohol and drugs. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a quantity of cannabis.
35 year old Amanda Whalen of Perth, was arrested and taken to the Lanark OPP detachment for further testing by a drug recognition expert. She faces charges including operation while impaired by alcohol and drugs, driving with a blood alcohol concentration over 80, having cannabis readily available in a vehicle, and speeding.
Whalen’s vehicle was impounded for seven days and her licence suspended for 90 days. She is scheduled to appear in court in Kingston on May 27th.
