At their recent meeting, Gananoque Town Council approved the addition and removal of several artifacts from the Town’s Civic Collection. Zane Smith, Collections Manager at the 1000 Islands History Museum, appeared before the Council to request final approval for these changes, as recommended by the Artefact Oversight Committee (AOC).
The additions to the collection include a Shuttlehead spinning and quilting machine, a colour print of the Gananoque Carriage Company, and photographs documenting the construction of the Thousand Islands Bridge. These new artifacts are expected to enrich the Town’s historical collection and provide valuable insight into the region’s history.
Additionally, Council approved the removal of several items from the collection, including a furniture set, four chairs, a crate, a hutch, and a stove. The decision to add and remove these pieces reflects ongoing efforts to maintain and curate a relevant and meaningful collection for the community.
