
A 46-year-old Kingston man has been charged with impaired driving and weapon possession following a late-night traffic stop near Perth Road Village.
On April 1st at around 11:40 p.m., a Frontenac OPP officer stopped a vehicle after noticing another driver flashing their headlights. The driver, Steven Coveney, exhibited signs of alcohol use and failed a roadside breath test. He was arrested and taken to Kingston Police headquarters for further testing.
A search of the vehicle revealed a knife under the driver’s seat. Coveney has been charged with operating a vehicle while impaired (blood alcohol concentration 80+) and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. His license was suspended for 90 days, and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.
Coveney was released and is scheduled to appear in Ontario Court of Justice in Kingston on April 29, 2025. OPP remind drivers to plan safe rides home.
