Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for our listening area, warning of freezing rain and heavy rainfall from Wednesday morning into early Thursday.
A developing low-pressure system will bring a mix of precipitation, beginning as freezing rain in some areas before transitioning to heavy rain. Ice accretion of 2 to 5 mm is possible, creating hazardous road conditions and the risk of tree damage and power outages. Winds gusting up to 50 km/h could worsen the impact.
As temperatures rise, freezing rain will change to rain, with 20 to 40 mm expected. Localized flooding is possible, especially in areas with poor drainage. The Ottawa Valley could see prolonged freezing rain into early Thursday.
Residents are urged to monitor weather updates and prepare for challenging travel conditions. Freezing rain warnings may be issued as the system approaches.
