More than 20 local artists have donated their works to help transform Providence Care’s AB Smith Homestead House into a warm and welcoming space for patients and their families. The pieces, which include paintings, mixed-media works, and quilts, are displayed throughout the house, enhancing the atmosphere for those receiving end-of-life care.
Providence Care’s Vice President of Corporate Services and Executive Director of Hospice, Krista Wells Pearce, expressed gratitude for the artists’ generosity, noting that their contributions provide beauty and tranquility to the hospice house. The artworks are displayed in all ten patient rooms, hallways, and common areas, creating a peaceful environment for those who need it most.
The donations come from artists such as Mark Fodey, who shared his personal connection to hospice care, and others who have experienced the emotional impact of grief. AB Smith Homestead House, Kingston’s first hospice house, opened on March 19, 2025. It serves over 165,000 community members and was funded largely by community donations. The art-filled space offers a lasting legacy of love, dignity, and peace for those in need of compassionate care.
