Environment Canada has issued a Freezing Rain Warning for Gananoque and surrounding areas, with significant ice accretion expected from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon. Ice buildup of 5 to 15 mm, with localized amounts exceeding 20 mm, could lead to widespread power outages and hazardous travel conditions.
Precipitation may start as snow or rain Friday evening before changing to freezing rain. A brief lull is possible Saturday before freezing rain resumes, eventually shifting to rain on Sunday as temperatures rise above freezing. The heavy ice accumulation may break tree branches, further increasing risks.
Residents are urged to take extra precautions when walking or driving, as roads and sidewalks will be dangerously slippery. Public Safety Canada advises having an emergency plan and preparing an emergency kit with food, water, medicine, a flashlight, and first aid supplies in case of power outages. Stay updated with local forecasts.
