The Town of Gananoque will transition its Blue Box recycling program to Circular Materials Ontario on March 31, 2025, as part of Ontario’s extended producer responsibility (EPR) framework. Under this new system, producers of packaging and paper products will take full financial and operational responsibility for recycling.
Gananoque joins other Ontario municipalities in shifting to the new framework, which began rolling out in July 2023 and will be fully implemented by 2026. While the transition means the Town will no longer manage the Blue Box program, residents will continue to see curbside collection, though with a different contractor.
Recyclable materials accepted will remain the same through the transition period from March 2025 to December 2026. However, this change does not affect garbage collection, which remains the Town’s responsibility. For more information, residents can visit www.circularmaterials.ca/ON.
