On January 26, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) marks International Customs Day with a focus on its commitment to efficiency, security, and prosperity. The CBSA celebrated its accomplishments over the past year, including the prevention of illegal drugs, firearms, and inadmissible individuals from entering Canada while facilitating global trade.
In 2024, the CBSA seized over 34,400 kg of illegal drugs, including a 775% increase in fentanyl seizures, and intercepted more than 2,277 stolen vehicles. The agency also removed over 16,470 foreign nationals for violating immigration laws and intervened in more than 10,600 cases to prevent boarding of inadmissible passengers.
With continued investment from the Canadian government, the CBSA is enhancing its operations, including the introduction of new technologies like facial recognition for travelers and the launch of the CARM system to streamline trade processing.
The agency’s efforts also contributed to over $40 billion in revenue collection, supporting essential public services. As part of the Canada’s Border Plan, the CBSA continues to strengthen border security, protect Canadian industries, and improve operational coordination with international partners.
The Honourable David J. McGuinty and Erin O’Gorman, CBSA President, praised the agency’s crucial role in safeguarding Canada’s economy and security.
