Check your mailbox. The Ontario government has started issuing $200 rebates to help taxpayers and their children cope with the federal carbon tax and rising interest rates.
Cheques are being mailed to eligible residents of Lanark and Leeds who filed their 2023 Income Tax and Benefits Return by Dec. 31, 2024.
To qualify, you must have been 18 or older and living in Ontario on Dec. 31, 2023, and not have been bankrupt or incarcerated in 2024.
Families receiving the Canada Child Benefit (CCB) will get an additional $200 cheque for each eligible child under 18. For instance, a family of five with two adults and three children could receive $1,000.
The government says the rebates aim to offset rising costs for households. Cheques will arrive over the next few weeks.
