Brockville Police responded to reports of a disturbance at an apartment building on Kyle Court on December 18th at around 11:00 a.m., . Upon arrival, officers discovered a small fire caused by a malfunctioning e-bike battery that had overheated, bubbled, and started smoking while charging.
The residents attempted to extinguish the fire using water, which exacerbated the situation. The Brockville Fire Department quickly intervened, safely neutralizing the hazard.
Two police officers investigating the initial disturbance were exposed to harmful fumes from the burning battery. They received medical attention and were later released, with doctors recommending monitoring as a precaution.
