Kingston Police are investigating two recent distraction thefts targeting senior citizens. The first incident occurred on November 23, 2024, outside a restaurant at Frontenac Mall, and the second on December 5, 2024, outside a store at the Days Road and Bath Road Plaza.
In both cases, elderly women were approached by suspects in a vehicle, who asked for directions to the hospital. The suspects, a middle-aged man with two adult women and two young children in the back seat, then draped large fake jewelry around the victims’ heads and wrists as a “thank you.” During this distraction, the suspects stole the victims’ valuable jewelry.
The suspects, described as having light brown skin, used the children to further divert attention, asking victims to keep the fake jewelry on. It wasn’t until after the suspects had left that the victims realized their own jewelry had been stolen. The suspects were driving a dark sedan, and no video footage of the incident has been found. Police urge the public to be cautious.
