It appears full steam ahead for the merger of the three major area health units.
Leeds, Grenville & Lanark District Health Unit board member Richard Kidd provided a recent update on their talks.
The separated towns are Smiths Falls, Brockville, Gananonque and Prescott.
The province has mentioned their desire to have health units serve no less than 500,000 people, which would mean mass amalgamation for many rural communities. They’ve promised funding to cover the merger costs as an incentive.
The merger would see LGLDH almalgamate with KFL&A Public Health, Hastings Prince Edward Public Health
Kidd doesn’t see a world where the merger doesn’t move ahead.
A merger date of January 5th, 2025 has been tentatively set.
