We all know that turtles cross the road in search of a place to lay eggs. We also know many turtles suffer fatal injuries, which has Parks Canada working on a new initiative called On The Road Again. The project focuses on improving habitats for reptiles and amphibians. Project Coordinator Katherine Welch has some details.
Welch says Parks Canada has been building eco passages, or tunnels to allow for a safe crossing and will be implementing them at their parks including nearby Thousand Islands National Park.
Welch encourages everyone to help a turtle get across the road safely.
She hopes everyone can do what they can to help save these animals.
Welch says they are looking to help protect reptiles and amphibians at many parks including Thousand Islands National Parks. The project is done in collaboration with other organizations including the Brockville Aquatarium.
