Depot Lakes Conservation Area and Camp Grounds is this week’s “Destination Local”, presented by 99.9 myFM.
A perfect spot to get away from your busy everyday life and relax in nature.
We spoke with Kirsten Geisler, Quinte Conservation Communications Specialist, who told us about the conservation area.
Depot Lakes Conservation area is located near the town of Verona. It covers a 3,000-acre region and includes second, third, and fourth lakes.
The Conservation Area is part of the magnificent Canadian shield offering granite formations, as well as several geological zones including Marble and Limestone layers. The area is also rich in wilderness featuring a variety of Bird Species including Osprey, Common Loon, and Bald Eagle. It is also home to Ontario’s only lizard, the Five-lined Skink.
Geisler tells us this is the perfect setting for nature photographers, hikers, and anyone looking to do a little fishing.
Camping is available from the May long weekend until the end of October. There are 20 interior boat-in only sites and 60 seasonal sites for summer long trailer camping.
Geisler told us how to preregister for a camping trip.
Camping booking’s are available in 5 night blocks from 12pm on a Thursday to 12pm Tuesday.
