If you are a young person and play a sport, you want to be like the greats one day. Basketball players want to be like Michael Jordan if you’re a hockey player, you hope to be like Wayne Gretzky one day. The youth here in Gananoque now have their own hero. Zach Pelehos. Recently the former Ganaoque Trojan and Ottawa Gee Gee, recently went second overall in the first round of the CFL Draft with the Ottawa Redblacks. Pelehos says coming from a small town it is particularly difficult for today’s youth to become noticed as an athlete and you really have to work hard to get your name out there. He credits his past coaches at Gananoque Secondary School for being his biggest inspiration, which has helped his get to where he is today. Pelehos says one of the biggest pieces of advice he has for today’s youth, is to understand that whether you want to become a professional athlete or go into the workforce, you will face hard times and adversity. The biggest thing is to not give up and continue to pursue what you want to do in life. To hear Zach’s full interview with myFM’s Tim Baltz, click the link below.
