With funding in place construction of a new elementary school in Brockville will take place. Leeds Grenville Rideau Lakes and Thousand Islands MPP Steve Clark announced last week that $25.5 million dollars was approved for the new school, which will be built on 14 acres of land near the Brock Trail. Capacity for the school is around 500 plus students, 17 classrooms and a dedicated childcare space. The new building will replace Commonwealth and Toniata Public Schools. Projected completion date is set for January of 2024.
The new Brockville South Elementary School will be located at 556 King Street West in Brockville.
· For 2022-23, the province is also providing school boards with $1.4 billion in funding to renew and maintain existing schools.
· The governments of Canada and Ontario are providing $656.5 million in funding for critical infrastructure projects to protect students and staff from COVID-19 in the province’s schools through the COVID-19 Resilience stream of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program.
