Gananoque Thousand Islands region is one of the areas where the Ontario government is making improvements to highway rest stops.
The former Highway 401 westbound commercial vehicle inspection site will se almost 30 new parking slots for 18 wheelers, giving drivers a safe place to stop, rest, and inspect their vehicles before continuing their journey.
In general, money is also being invested in things like better lighting and signage and turning lanes to accommodate large vehicles where feasible.
