The love story of famous Boldt Castle has been heard many times over. Not many know about how it got to its current state. A new book titled Rising from the Rubble, The Restoration of Boldt Castle, written by Gerald Borland from Carthage New York and Hope Marston from Black River New York, describes how it all began in 1977. Retired director of construction, engineering and maintenance for the Thousand Islands Bridge Authority and Boldt Castle Historian Dale Fikes, met the two authors. He describes how it all got started.
With all the note taking by Fikes, both Borland and Marston kept wanting to know more and Fikes added he had plenty of knowledge to offer them.
Fikes said he never even seen the property but became immediately interested in the restoration project.
Even after this book has been completed, Fikes added that he still thinks of more things that have happened in years gone by.
Fikes also said for years his family had always wanted him to document the restoration of the castle and this book documents many of the restoration efforts. The book will soon be available to the public at a cost of $17.95 US.
