OPP SAY USE 911 FOR EMERGENCIES ONLY
Grenville OPP are sending out a reminder that 9-1-1 is for emergency use only. Over a 24 hour period, the detachment responded to 5 pocket dials and 1 9-1-1 call where a citizen reported she had a raccoon in her backyard. When police receive a 9-1-1 call, they must respond. This places strain on the police force and places others experiencing a real emergency at risk. 9-1-1 is for emergency calls only, which covers any situation where people or property is at risk and requires immediate assistance. Examples of 9-1-1 emergencies include a crime in progress, an impaired driver, a medical emergency or a fire. For non-emergency calls for service to the OPP, call 1-888-310-1122 (toll free anywhere in Ontario) or 1-888-310-1133 (TYY) for the hearing impaired.
