The Power Off and Play community initiative has come to an end, and there are some local winners who will be getting a piece of the overall 50 thousand dollar prize!
In Gananoque, St. Joseph Catholic Elementary School will be able to provide "Wonder Wagons" for Kindergarten classes.
The wagons will carry everything the students need to learn about the great outdoors, from gloves and garbage bags, to binoculars and compasses.
The school will also add an indoor garden that will begin with seedlings, and end with replanting outdoors to teach the kids how to tend to a vegetable garden. (It will turn the Kindergarteners into Kinder-Gardeners!!!)
In Leeds and the Thousand Islands, they will introduce a challenge for one hundred children.
A bucket will be given to children and in that bucket there will be a number of items that can help get children active.
Those children who complete thirty or more challenges will be eligible for a draw of additional prizes.
The power off and play initiative was designed to create a supportive environment that promotes powering off devices, and encourages physical activity.
