A couple grass fires in the area may have been started by discarded cigarettes. Leeds and Thousand Islands OPP responded to 2 grass fires in late last week. Front of Yonge, Athens and Elizabethtown fire units responded to a large grass fire on Temperance Lake Road and another on Graham Lake Road. Both fires caused significant damage to property and almost saw an evacuation of residents in the area. Fire departments were able to get both fires under control and extinguish them fully. Leeds County OPP are reminding motorists to be mindful and properly discard their cigarettes.
