OPP URGING PEOPLE TO USE 911 FOR EMERGENCIES ONLY
Leeds OPP would like to remind the public that 9-1-1 should only be used for emergency calls. Over the weekend, the detachment received a 911 call for service from a twenty one year old Quebec woman after she had lost all of her money at the Shoreline Casino Thousand Islands. She was requesting OPP assistance in getting back home. Officers requested she stay where she was and await verification. She then called back saying someone had given her more money so she was going back into the casino and no longer needed help. Examples of 9-1-1 emergencies include: a crime in progress, a fire or a medical emergency or simply, whenever police, fire or ambulance assistance is required immediately. The woman was not charged.
