Gananoque's fire service has adopted a new protocol when it comes to fighting fires. Volunteers will no longer head directly to the scene, instead, they'll assemble as a group before heading out. Chief Steve Tiernan feels the changes will serve not only the firefighters but the town of Gananoque more efficiently moving forward.

Tiernan also says the protocol is standard practice in other larger jurisdictions. He adds it's all about efficiency and more importantly, safety. Gananoque Mayor Erika Demchuk also agrees with the change saying the safety of the people who are working for the town come first.
