PARKS CANADA TO BEGIN CLOSING RIDEAU CANAL LOCKS
10/6/2017 6:38:47 AM
The leaves are starting to change colour and the nights are getting cooler. We know fall is here and another sure sign summer has come to an end is the closing of the Rideau Canal. Starting next Tuesday, Parks Canada will close 24 of their lock stations between Kingston and Ottawa. Along with closing lock stations to boaters, water levels in the Rideau Canal between Ottawa and Burritt's Rapids are decreased and water courses in the Lower Rideau Watershed are adjusted for winter freeze up and to reduce the possibility of spring flooding.
