Gananoque finished the 2016 fiscal year with a two per cent surplus. Treasurer Melanie Kirkby presented council with the final numbers from last year on Tuesday night. The surplus of almost $336,000 was transferred to reserves. Kirkby broke down the financial statements department by department for council as to if they had a deficit or surplus. She said the overall surplus can be attributed to under spending and overacheiving on revenues.
Some departments that saw funds left over at the end of last year included the casino revenues, the corporate service department, IT services, council, the police department and the planning department. Hydro costs, the recreation and fire departments were some of the departments that were over budget.
