MOE CONFIRMS NO AIR CONTAMINATION FOLLOWING 401 CHEMICAL SPILL

Leeds OPP have released more information into the collision that shut down the 401 on Tuesday afternoon. Police have identified 45 year-old Ian Meville of Hamilton as the transport truck driver who succumbed to his injuries after being involved in the first collision. The Technical Traffic Collision Investigation Unit are on site conducting their investigation. The highway reopened late last night and site clean up is ongoing says the Township of Leeds and Thousand Islands. The Ministry of Environment confirms there is no air contamination and short term decontamination is well underway and the Ministry has a long term plan in place to mitigate any future risk to surface water and the environment. Lane closures may continue over the coming days to as remedial efforts continue.
